SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- October 6, 2008 – The Springfield College women’s volleyball team will be hosting the annual Tom Hay Invitational this weekend in Blake Arena with a different twist as the Pride will have its eye on raising awareness towards breast cancer.The Pride will take on Westfield State at 5:00 pm on Friday before squaring off versus Roger Williams at 7:00 pm. On Saturday, the Pride will take on local-foe Western New England at 9:00 am and challenge Plymouth State in a 3:00 pm match.
Springfield College plans to raise breast cancer awareness in the following way:
* the Springfield College women’s volleyball team will be wearing pink T-shirts during warm-ups
* pink t-shirts will be sold to anyone who would like to benefit breast cancer research
* pink ribbons will be handed out to all fans
* the arena will be decorated with signs and pink balloons
* the tournament’s game program will be pink
* live stats available on-line for all four of the Pride’s games, will be featured mainly in pink
Springfield College is requesting fans wear pink apparel to these contests.
Moira Long will enter her second season as head women's volleyball coach in the fall of 2012. Long wasted little time putting her stamp on the program, taking the Pride to the NCAA Championship Elite Eight in 2011.
