Women's Track & Field 12th At ECAC Championship

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., May 16, 2003 -- The Springfield College men’s track & field team captured its second consecutive Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Championship on Friday.
The Pride outdistanced New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) champion MIT, which also hosted the two-day meet. On the women’s side, SC placed 12th out of 47 scoring teams.
Senior
Erin Pac (Farmington, Conn.), who is also a member of the U.S. Bobsled National Team, led the SC women by coming in second place in the heptathlon with 4,077 points. Junior
Leyla Williams (Unionville, N.Y.) was third in the hammer throw (47.38 meters).
Junior
Suzie Snyder (Averill Park, N.Y.) finished 12th with a school-record pole vault of 10 feet, 4 inches. Snyder also holds the school indoor record of 10 feet, 6 inches set in 2002.
SC senior
Jason Jackson (Phippsburg, Maine) had a sensational meet, running to first place in the 100 meters (10.74) and 200 meters (21.73). Sophomore All-American
Blake Gulino (Old Saybrook, Conn.) won the long jump (23 feet, 4 ¾ inches), and senior
Adam Hughes (Bridgewater, Conn.) finished second in the 110-meter high hurdles (14.75).

Vinnie Mazzaferro (Brimfield, Mass.) and Roy turned in a third-place performance (43.40).

Jim Pennington enters his 29th season as head coach of the Springfield College women’s cross country and track and field teams in 2012-2013. Under Pennington’s direction, the Pride has recorded seven top 20 finishes at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships, and seven top 15 finishes at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
