



Springfield, Mass. -- September 12, 2011 -- Josh Carter and Scott Christy of Springfield College have been named the Empire 8 Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for games played as of September 10.The Pride defeated Frostburg State, 48-24, at SC's Amos Alonzo Stagg Field this past Saturday, and is now 1-0 on the 2011 season.
Carter is a senior quarterback from Marlborough, Mass. Christy is a senior inside linebacker from Monroe, Conn.
Carter ran for 189 yards and three TDs on 17 carries. He also went 2-for-4 for 82 yards and two TDs passing the ball. He added a two-point conversion pass in one attempt. His TD runs were of 1, 33, and 71 yards. His TD passes were of 17 and 65 yards in this game of big plays.
As for Christy, he was credited with 22 tackles, including seven solos. He also had one forced fumble and two pass break-ups. He also made the primary stop of a fourth-and-goal from the one-yard line midway through the third quarter when it was still an 11-point game.

Michael C. “Mike” DeLong ’74 enters his 31st season as a head football coach in the fall of 2012. He enters his 29th year at Springfield College alone. For the past 28 years, he has been the head coach at Springfield, his alma mater. Mike had also been the head coach at Maine Maritime in Castine, Maine in 1979 and 1980. Read more.
