Springfield, Mass. -- February 2, 2013 -- Laurie Jenkins, Erin Womboldt, and Rhian Duggan all had first place finishes for the Springfield College women's track & field team in a 10-team meet at the Springfield College Field House this afternoon. As a team, SC placed second overall.
The final results had Amherst placing first with 222 points, followed by Springfield at 155, CCNY (90.50), Trinity (77), Eastern Connecticut State (58), Wellesley (47), the U,S. Merchant Marine Academy (36), Mount St. Mary (26), Mount Holyoke (22.50), and Manhattanville (14).
Jenkins had a great day for the Pride by placing first in the 400-meter dash in 1:00.45 and fourth in the 60-meter dash in 8.07 seconds. The senior also helped SC win the 4x200 meter relay in 1:50.28.
Also participating in the winning 4x200 were Crystal Davis, Gabriella Gaudreault, and Jessica Miller.
Womboldt, a freshman, captured the 60-meter hurdles in 9.80 seconds, and placed third in the long jump in 4.83 meters. Duggan, a senior, won the pole vault with a leap of 3.20 meters.
The home team also provided several second-place finishers. They included Kimeisha Winkle in the 400 in 1:04.56, Jenn Kapinos in the 500 in 1:22.50, and Samantha Pomroy in the 800 in 2:23.56. Also placing second were Heather Lefaivre in the 60-hurdles in 10.04 seconds, Elizabeth Robitaille in the high jump in 1.47 meters, and Colleen Brague in the weight throw in 13.05 meters.
Besides Womboldt in the long jump, taking third-place honors for the hosts were Brianna Hill in the triple jump in 10.31 meters, and the distance medley relay in 13:26.54. That foursome included Abigail Wright, Pomroy, Nicole DeCristoforo, and Erica Fisher.
Next Saturday, the SC women will travel to the BU Invitational in Boston.
