SPRINGFIELD, Mass., January 21, 2006 - Springfield College senior All-American Mike Shaw (Westfield, Mass.)captured first place finishes in both the one- and three-meter dives, SC's men’s swimming and diving team fell, 160-127, to Williams College this afternoon at SC’s Art Linkletter Natatorium. On the women’s side, Williams defeated Springfield, 161-131.
Other first place finishes for the men included senior All-American Dan Moran (Wilbraham, Mass.) in the 500 free (4:53.16) and sophomore All-American Roy Burch (Warwick, Bermuda) in the 50 free. Burch also teamed with junior Paul McCloskey (Brookfield, Conn.), junior Chris Lecompte (Londonderry, N.H.), and freshman Will Banulski (Bristol, Conn.) to take first in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:14.48.
For Williams College, senior Will Cunningham placed first in both the 100 free (47.53) and 200 free (1:43.63).
The SC women were victorious in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:41.39. The winning quartet included junior Megan O’Hara (Bedford, N.H.), freshman Moira Price (Berkely Heights, N.J.), senior Alicia Hart (West Hartford, Conn.), and senior Emily Phillips (North Windham, Conn.).
Other SC winners on the women’s side included junior Sarah Strout (Boothbay, Maine) in the 1,000 free (10:43.06), sophomore Emily Sheahan (Erin, N.Y.) in the 500 free (5:14.87), and junior Jackie Clark (Plymouth, Mass.) in the 200 individual medley (2:26:62). Freshman Erin White (Glastonbury, Conn.) also won the three-meter diving event with a score of 243.22. /
Williams College senior Lindsay Payne (Charlotte, N.C.) posted first place finishes in both the 100 backstroke (1:01.77) and the 100 free (53.51).
SC's men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will host Coast Guard next Saturday afternoon, January 28, in a 1:00 p.m.
