No. 10 Field Hockey Advances to NEWMAC Tournament Championship
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Nov. 6, 2004 - Springfield College freshman forward
Brittany Veazie (Dexter, Maine) scored two goals and an assist to lead the No. 10 Pride to a 4-0 win over Clark University in the semifinals of the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) field hockey tournament on Benedum Field.
The Pride (18-3) will face second-seeded Wellesley College, who defeated Babson, 2-1, in the night’s other semifinal, in the tournament championship game on Sunday (Nov. 7) at 2:00 p.m. on Benedum Field.
Veazie put SC on the board with her first goal at the 13:40 mark, with an assist from junior forward
Meg Bascetta (Granby, Conn.), before her second goal, unassisted at the 5:33 mark, gave the Pride a 2-0 lead.

Sarah Brooker (Auburn, Maine) gave the Pride a 3-0 halftime cushion off an assist from Veazie, with 1:37 remaining in the period.

Amber Paradee (Sheldon, Vt.) tallied the lone goal of the second half, on an assist from Brooker at the 12:17 mark, to make the score, 4-0, and lead the Pride to its fifth NEWMAC Tournament Championship game appearance in the last six seasons.
A victory tomorrow would earn SC an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the first time since 2000. SC also appeared in the 1997, 1999 and 2000 national tournaments, finishing in the semifinals in 1999, and national runner-up in 2000.
Wellesley 2, Babson 1

Zana Previti (Ashburnham, Mass.) and sophomore
Julia Parzych (Auburn, Mass.) each tallied goals to lead the second-seeded Blue to the 2-1 victory over third-seeded Babson College in the semifinals of the NEWMAC Tournament.
Previti put Wellesley (12-4) on the board 12 minutes into the game as the Blue led, 1-0, after the first half of play.
Babson sophomore
Heather Dunbar (Hubbardston, Mass.) evened the game with a tally at the 30:28 mark of the second half for the Beavers (13-8), but Parzych’s decisive goal with 16:54 remaining in the game broke the tie for the eventual 2-1 final score in favor of the Blue.
Wellesley junior goalie
Caitlin Andrews (Edgecomb, Maine) was credited with 13 saves in the victory.
