Box Score

Springfield, Mass. - December 6, 2012 - The Springfield College men's basketball team handled Trinity College, 64-49, on Thursday evening in the Pride's home opener in Blake Arena. Jordan Rote netted a game-high 22 points to pace the hosts to victory.

The Pride, which received votes in this week's D3Hoops.com National Poll, improves to 7-1 on the season, while the Bantams drop to 3-5. Springfield is off to its best start since the 2004-2005 season when it opened up with nine wins in its first 10 games.

Springfield only had one other double-digit scorer besides Rote, as Josh Altman came off the bench to net 11 points, connecting on 3-for-5 from downtown. Robbie Burke posted nine points and six rebounds, while Sean Martin handed out five assists.

Shay Ajayi tallied a team-best 13 points for Trinity and grabbed eight boards, connecting on six of his seven field goal attempts and Mick DiStasio notched 11 points in the loss. Trinity has hampered by turnovers throughout the game, committing 25 miscues which turned into 26 Springfield points.

The Bantams owned an early 9-4 lead after DiStasio drilled a three 4:59 into the contest. Springfield would shake off a sloppy start and score the game's next 13 points over a 5:19 span to take a 18-9 lead after Rote scored in the paint. Altman provided a huge spark off the bench, drilling a pair of three's in the run.

The Pride's lead would continue to grow, with the hosts snagging a 26-14 lead following a pair of freebies from Nick Sienkiewicz at the 3:11 mark. Trinity would get as close as seven after two free throws from Steve Spirou, but Rote hit a pair of his own from the charity stripe with four seconds remaining to give Springfield a 28-19 halftime lead.

Springfield built its lead to 11, 36-25, following an Alex Berthiaume fast-break bucket 4:42 into the second half. However, Trinity put together one last surge, battling back with a 8-0 run to get within three following a free throw from DiStasio.

Altman answered right back with a huge three from the wing, and a conventional three-point play from Burke the next time down the court put the hosts back up nine. The Pride would cruise the rest of the way, leading by as much as 21 en route to the 15-point non-conference win.

Springfield will play for the final time at home this calendar year as it hosts Williams on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
