Men's Track and Field Wins Coast Guard Tri-Meet

New London, Conn. - April 10, 2010 - The Springfield College men's track and field team cruised past conference rivals in a tri-meet on Saturday afternoon as it topped both WPI and Coast Guard. The Pride totaled 172 points in the victory, followed by WPI (118) and Coast Guard (114).

Steve Headley ran very well for Springfield as he took first in the 100 (10.66) and 200 (21.76). His time in the 100 provisionally qualified the defending national champion for the NCAA Championships.

Nickel Hay crossed the finish line first in the 400 in 49.86, while teammate James Dang won the 800 in 2:01.85.

In the 3000 meter steeplechase, Zach Pietras blew away the competition as he won by nearly a minute after recording a time of 9:36.65.

Headley joined with teammates Garrett Sharnick, Hay, and Matt Amendola to win the 4x100 in 42.41. SC's 4x400 relay team of Tom Brognano, Kevin Coyle, Kevin Behlmer, and Hay also were victorious with a time of 3:23.29.

Springfield's other individual winner included Dylan Brock, who won the long jump with a leap of 6.65m (21-10.00).
