Springfield, Mass. - September 16, 2009
- The Springfield College women's volleyball team was recently ranked second in New England in the first New England Women’s Volleyball Association Coaches Regional Poll. The Pride is also currently receiving votes in the most recent American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) national poll.
UMass-Boston is currently ranked as the top team in New England as they have a 7-2 overall record and have already knocked off the likes of regional powers Tufts and Williams. The Pride, the defending New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Champions, are second, while Williams is ranked third. Tufts is ranked fourth and Brandeis rounds out the top five.
Several of Springfield's conference's foes are ranked as well as Coast Guard (6th), MIT (8th), WPI (10th), and Wellesley (11th) are all in the top 15 in the region.
In a rematch of last year's NEWMAC Tournament Championship, Springfield and Wellesley will square off in Blake Arena on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 pm.
