Women Take Second in Springfield Indoor Track & Field Meet

Springfield, Mass. -- January 26, 2013 -- Gabriella Gaudreault, Laurie Jenkins, and Samantha Pomroy proved to be the top point-scorers for the Springfield College women's team in the Springfield College Indoor Track & Field Meet held this afternoon at the SC Field House. The Pride placed second of 12 squads with 82 points behind team victor St. Lawrence University with 113.

The final team scoring was as follows -- St. Lawrence 113, Springfield 82, Amherst 68.5, Westfield State 52, Coast Guard 42, WPI 41, AIC 39, RPI 32, Keene State 24, Mount Holyoke 22, Trinity 19, Eastern Connecticut State 18.5.

Gaudreault, a junior from Leominster, Mass., had a fine day for the Pride by winning the 800 meters with a time of 2:16.31, and helping her team take the 4x200 (in 1:47.67) and 4x400 (in 4:06.38) relays. Others in the 4x200 included senior Crystal Davis (Hartford, Conn.), freshman Jessica Miller (Southbury, Conn.), and Jenkins, a senior from Columbia, Conn. Others in the 4x400 included Davis, Miller, and freshman Kimeisha Winkle (Springfield, Mass.).

Jenkins placed first in the 200-meter dash in 26.10, more than a full second better than her nearest competitor. She also placed second in the 60-meter dash in 7.97 seconds.

SC had one other first on the day. That was provided by senior Rhian Duggan (Northboro, Mass.) in the pole vault with her leap of 3.20 meters.

Also having a fine day for the Pride was Pomroy, a freshman from Lebanon, Me. Pomroy placed second in the 600 meters in 1:40.86, and helped her 4x800 relay team take second in 10:04.64.

Davis also had a fifth in the 60-meters in 8.16 seconds. Sophomore Elizabeth Saia (Wallingford, Conn.) took sixth in the 200-meters in 27.92. Junior Jenn Kapinos (Agawam, Mass.) placed fifth in the 600 meters in 1:43.49. Senior Nicole Decristoforo (North Kingstown, R..I.) finished sixth in the 1000-meter run.

The others helping the SC 4x800 relay team to their second-place finish were Kapinos, Decristoforo, and freshman Abigail Wright (Pittsfield, Mass.).

Also taking a fifth for Springfield was freshman Erin Womboldt (Falmouth, Mass.) in the long jump in 4.90 meters.

Next Saturday (Feb. 2), SC will host another indoor track meet at the SC Field House.
