Brandeis Holds Off Women's Soccer, 3-1
WALTHAM, Mass., Sept. 20, 2003
- Springfield College junior forward Jessica Kovacs (Sutton, Mass.)
scored her fourth goal of the season but Brandies defated the visiting Pride, 3-1, in a non-conference match Saturday afternoon.
Brandeis sophomore forward Jillian Peo was involved in all three goals today as the Judges' women's soccer team defeated Springfield College, 3-1, on Gordon Field.
Springfield (3-2-1) opened the scoring in the 15th minute when Kovacs scored on a blast from 20 yards out. The goal snapped Brandeis' three-game shutout streak and was just the second scored on the Judges all season.
Brandeis (6-0) bounced back when Peo tallied her first goal of the game in the 23rd minute. After a scramble in front of the Pride net following a corner kick, Peo emerged with the ball, spun around and fired it into the upper left corner for her second tally of the season.
The Judges reclaimed the lead in the 45th minute. With just 20 seconds left in the first half, Brandeis sophomore forward Lauren Gregor received a pass from Peo just outside the box. Gregor beat one defender and blasted home her sixth goal of the season to take a 2-1 lead into halftime.
Peo added her second goal of the game less than two minutes into the second half when she one-timed a cross from senior tri-captain Julie Golomb.
