Men’s Track & Field Is 24th at New England Championships

BOSTON, February 26, 2005 – Springfield College senior All-American
Matt Acciaioli (Warwick, R.I.) finished fifth in the shot put with a throw of 52 feet, 8 3/4 inches to earn All-New England honors at the Open New England Championships on Saturday at Boston University.
The Pride tied for 24th at the meet, which featured Division I, II, and III schools. The University of Rhode Island won the meet with 112 points, followed by UMass-Lowell (73) and Southern Connecticut (65) in a field of 36 scoring teams.
SC also received points from sophomore
Alex Kampersal (Natick, Mass.) who finished eight in the shot put (50-8 1/4) and senior All-American
Justin Welch (Woburn, Mass.) who was eighth in the high-jump (6-3 1/4).
SC travels to Yale University on Friday, March 4 for the Trinity Last Chance Invitational.

Ken Klatka, just inducted into the Springfield College Athletic Hall of Fame in October, 2011, enters his 37th season as head coach of the men’s track and field program in 2012-2013. He ranks among the nation’s most successful coaches, with an overall record of 442 wins, 144 losses, and two ties for an impressive .753 winning percentage. Under his direction, Kevin Coyle '12 won the 2011 Division III Indoor Long Jump National Championship.
