Springfield Men's Gymnastics Places Fourth in Nation Academically

Alex McCabe Springfield, Mass. -- August 23, 2012 -- The Springfield College men's gymnastics team finished fourth in the nation as a team in the College Gymnastics Association listings academically in 2012. In addition, SC senior Alex McCabe was among 12 student-athletes named First Team All-American Scholar-Athlete with a GPA of 3.90 or above.

From a team standpoint, Springfield College finished with a 3.163 GPA, fourth among all men's gymnastics teams in the country. William & Mary took the academic crown with a 3.530 team GPA, followed by Temple (3.479), Minnesota (3.204), Springfield (3.163), and Stanford (3.104). The second five included Michigan (3.096), Nebraska (3.083), Penn State (3.078), Army (3.058), and Oklahoma (2.982).

A total of 73 student-athletes were named CGA first team All-American Scholar-Athletes around the nation, and 10 were from Springfield College. They included McCabe (3.90 GPA or above), Joe Carlson, Brian Cogan, and Patrick Ryther (3.80 to 3.899), Ian Crider, Andrew Grabowski, and Jeffrey White (3.70 to 3.799), Jimmy Pezzino (3.60 to 3.699), and Patrick Hanley and Kelvin Soares (3.50 to 3.599).

Two others from Springfield College were named CGA second team All-American Scholar-Athletes. They included Christopher Jost and Ryan Ponce.
