Lakeland, Fla. - March 21, 2013 - The Springfield College baseball team let a one-run lead in the eighth inning slip away as it fell to 13th-ranked Ramapo, 9-7, on Thursday afternoon.
Springfield is now 3-3 on the year, while Ramapo improved to 8-1.
Matt Milano went 3-for-6 on the day for the Pride, while Jared Hopkins, Corey Wilcox, Billy Paskowski, and Frank Calabrese each had two hits.
Springfield took a two run lead in the first inning thanks to RBI singles from Milano and Sean Smith. Ramapo answered back to tie the game at two in the bottom of the third inning on a RBI single and sac fly to center.
Springfield scored one run in the fourth and fifth inning to take a 4-2 lead. Ryan Gower cracked a RBI double in the fourth to score Hopkins, before Hopkins posted a RBI single of his own in the fifth.
The Roadrunners once again came back to tie the game at four-all in the fifth inning and took a 6-4 lead in the sixth with two more runs off three hits.
Ramapo saw their lead get erased in the eighth as Springfield scored three runs to take a 7-6 lead. With the bases loaded, Paskowski busted a single through the right which plated Smith and Mike McGowan. Wilcox then put the Pride on top for the final time as his single promptly scored Milano.
The Roadrunners would rally and take the lead for good in the bottom half of the inning after registering four hits in the frame.
Springfield will open up a critical three-game set with MIT in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play in Florida. The first game will take place on Friday evening at 6:00 pm before a doubleheader on Saturday at 12:00 pm.
