Tetsuji Kambara Named NEWMAC’s Top Runner

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Sept. 13, 2004 – Springfield College’s
Tetsuji Kambara is the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Runner of the Week in men’s cross country, announced today.
In his first college meet,
Kambara, a sophomore from
Osaka, Japan, recorded a third-place finish at the Connecticut College Invitational on Saturday. He outran 267 other competitors over the five-mile course at Harkness Memorial State Park in Waterford, Conn., to finish in a time of 25:36. Kambara was nearly 30 seconds ahead of the next NEWMAC competitor.
In track & field, Kambara is the reigning conference champion in the 5,000 meters.
The Pride placed ninth at the Conn. College Invitational. The 20-team field was comprised of Division I, II and III schools. Sophomore
Patrick Hepper was the other SC runner to place in the top-50, finishing 49th (27:14). Junior
Scott Barton was close behind at 52nd (27:16), followed by junior
Chris Hamel (60th/27:39), senior
Pat Derocco (61st/27:41), senior
Steve Wilson (72nd/28:22) and junior
Rob Silliman (74th/28:27).

Head Coach Bryan Brown

Bryan Brown will enter his third season as the head men's cross country coach in the fall of 2013. Brown, who was a former All-American at Springfield College in track, is the reigning NEWMAC Coach of the Year after leading Springfield to its second-straight second-place finish at the conference championships a year ago .
