Men's Track and Field Runs Past Competition at Springfield 6-Way Meet

Nickel Hay Complete Results

Springfield, Mass. -- January 23, 2010 -- Nickel Hay won the 200 meters and 400 meters to lead his Springfield College men's track & field team to victory in a 6-Way Meet at the Springfield College Field House this afternoon.

The Pride scored 129 points, followed by Bowdoin 104, Coast Guard 94.50, Westfield State 91, UMass Dartmouth 74.50, and Eastern Connecticut State 31.

Hay, a junior from Norwalk, Conn., won the 200 meters with a time of 23.02. He followed that up later by winning the 400 with a time of 50.79.

Another two-time winner for Springfield included sophomore Kevin Coyle (Bradford, N.H.) in the long jump and the triple jump. In the long jump, Coyle won with a leap of 22-feet 9 3/4-inches. He then won the triple jump with a leap of 46-4 1/4.

SC senior Steve Headley (Wilbraham, Mass.) earned a tough win in the 55-meter dash, the event in which he is the defending national champion. Despite being the last one out of the blocks, Headley won with his slowest time of the season at 6.43 seconds. Senior Matt Amendola (Milford, Conn.) finished fifth in the same event with a time of 6.64 seconds.

There were more winners for the Pride. In the 1000 meters, junior Stephen Creamer (Seekonk, Mass.) placed first with a time of 2:35.92. In the 1-mile run, SC junior Troy French (Antrim, NH.) won with a time of 4:28.86. Also among individuals, junior Nick Hogan (Nashua, N.H.) captured the weight throw with a toss of 46-8 1/4.

In addition, SC's "A" team won the 4x800 Meter Relay by more than five full seconds at 8:13.14.

Up next, the men are at Bowdoin, along with MIT, Tufts, and Colby next Saturday, Jan. 30.
