Paul Purdy Named Pilgrim Lacrosse League Player Of The Week
, - April 26, 2004 - Springfield College senior attackman Paul Purdy (Brewster, N.Y.)
was named the Pilgrim Lacrosse League Player of the Week after leading the No. 9 Pride to a 2-0 week and the top-seed for the upcoming Pilgrim League Tournament.
Last Wednesday (April 21), the senior captain scored a career-high 10 points (7 goals, 3 assists) in SC's 20-12 win over cross-town rival WNEC in a battle of the league's top two squads. Purdy then added five assists to Springfield's 23-7 win at MIT on Saturday (April 24).
Purdy's performance against MIT moved him into eighth all-time at SC with 189 points. He also ranks sixth with 114 goals and eighth with 75 assists in four seasons at Springfield.
Purdy is the second member of the Pride to be honored with the award this spring as senior midfielder Craig Gibson (South Salem, N.Y.)
was recognized with the award on April 12.
The Pride, seeded No. 1 in the Pilgrim League East Division, will host West Division No. 2 seed Norwich University on Wednesday (April 28) at 7:00 p.m. on Benedum Field in the tournament semifinals. West Division No. 1 Western New England hosts East Division No. 2 Babson College in other semifinal action. The two winners will play on Saturday (May 1) at 1:00 p.m. at the highest remaining seed for the Pilgrim League Title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
