SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (June 7, 2007) – Springfield College Director of Athletics Cathie Schweitzer was recently named one of 29 nationwide AstroTurf ADs of the Year by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA). She was named AstroTurf AD of the Year in the Northeast (Division III).
Cathie received her award in Orlando, Florida on June 6.
Cathie Schweitzer was hired as Springfield director of athletics in 2000. Under Schweitzer's leadership, the Pride has finished as high as 13th, 15th, 26th, and 30th in the Directors' Cup standings. In Schweitzer's first year as AD, the Springfield men's volleyball team won its second Molten Division III national championship, and Pride divers placed first and second at the NCAA Division III national championships. That same year, the Springfield football team reached the NCAA East Regional Championship, which was the first time a New England-based institution had reached that plateau. In addition, the field hockey team finished as national runners-up.
Schweitzer was the national chairperson of the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Committee in 2006, and Springfield played host to the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball National Championship in both 2006 and 2007. Before coming to Springfield, Cathie held various teaching, coaching and athletics administration positions at Albion, Iowa, Grinnell, Oklahoma, and Bowling Green.
Now in its 42nd year, NACDA is the professional and educational association for more than 6,100 college athletics administrators at more than 1,600 institutions throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
