New Orleans, La. - March 10, 2010 - Springfield College senior Steve Headley was recently honored for his outstanding indoor track season as he was among the 64 men’s and women’s regional athletes, coaches, and assistant coaches of the year for the 2010 Division III indoor track and field season, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced on Wednesday. The USTFCCCA selects the top track athlete, field athlete, head coach, and assistant for the eight regions in Division III track and field. Headley was selected as New England Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive year.
A native of nearby Wilbraham, Mass., Headley has had yet another dominant season in the 55 meter dash for head coach Ken Klatka. With the NCAA Championships just a few days away, Headley enters the race with the fastest time in the country to date, a 6.28. Among Headley’s victories this season are the ECAC Championships, the New England Championships, and the Division III New England Championships.
Last year, Headley became the first member of Springfield men's track and field program to have been selected as a New England Athlete of the Year as he took home the New England Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Year honor. Headley went on to win the New England Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year just a few months later as he won the NCAA Championship in the 100 meter dash.
Remarkably, after finishing fifth in the 55 meter dash at the 2008 NCAA Division III Championships on March 15, 2008, Headley has not lost a 55-meter race in a span of nearly two years.

Ken Klatka, just inducted into the Springfield College Athletic Hall of Fame in October, 2011, enters his 37th season as head coach of the men’s track and field program in 2012-2013. He ranks among the nation’s most successful coaches, with an overall record of 442 wins, 144 losses, and two ties for an impressive .753 winning percentage. Under his direction, Kevin Coyle '12 won the 2011 Division III Indoor Long Jump National Championship.
