SPRINGFIELD, Mass., May 25, 2006 - Springfield College senior co-captains Holly Carmody (Wayland, Mass.) and Christine Nicol (Farmington, Conn.) have each been named to the 2006 Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division III All-Berkshire Region First-Team, in an announcement made late Wednesday afternoon, May 24th.
In being named to the All-Region First-Team, both Carmody and Nicol are now automatically eligible to be named 2006 IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-Americans, with that announcement coming on May 30th. The IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-Americans will then be honored at an awards banquet on June 10th in Baltimore, Md.
The 2006 Pride finished its impressive campaign with a 12-6 overall record, registering a perfect 6-0 record in the regular season of the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC). SC then won the NEWMAC Tournament, beating Wheaton College by a 15-11 score back on April 30th, and in doing so, earned its second straight NCAA Division III Tournament berth.
Carmody, a midfielder on this year’s Pride and graduate of Wayland High School, capped her illustrious four-year career ranked first all-time in SC women’s lacrosse history in goals scored (159) and total offensive points (220). Carmody also finished second all-time in assists (61). In the NEWMAC this season, Carmody was honored as the Player of the Year and a First-Team selection, as the midfielder was named an All-NEWMAC honoree for four consecutive seasons.
Nicol, the Pride’s top defender and graduate of Farmington High School, finished her senior season with four goals, one assists (five points), 59 ground balls, and 57 caused turnovers. Nicol, who joined Carmody on the All-NEWMAC First-Team this season, finished the year ranked first in the conference in caused turnovers (3.17/game) and ninth overall in Division III.
