



SPRINGFIELD, Mass., October 29, 2005 – Springfield College freshman midfielder Lauren Peltier (Agawam, Mass.) scored two goals in the first half to help lift the Pride past Mount Holyoke College, 4-0, this afternoon (Oct. 29) in Springfield, Mass., in the first round of the 2005 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Soccer Tournament.
SC advances to play No. 3 Clark in the semifinal round of the NEWMAC Tournament on Saturday, November 5, in a 1:30 p.m. start at Wheaton College.
Peltier scored both of her goals in a three-minute span in the opening half, in the 26th (25:44) and 29th minutes (28:21) of action.
The Pride continued its momentum in the second half with a goal by junior forward Annemarie Goodwin (Springfield, Mass.) in the 70th minute of play. Her goal was assisted by junior midfield Cara Reilly (Lenoxdale, Mass.). Two minutes later, in the 80th minute of play, junior midfielder Jessica Denehy (Whately, Mass.) capped off the scoring with the fourth goal of the game, assisted by Goodwin and sophomore Nicole Hanewich (Cumberland, R.I.).
SC has now won nine matches in a row, as the Pride improves to 12-4-2 on the season. SC remains perfect in the month of October, with a 9-0 mark.
John Gibson, a native of London, England, enters his 13th season as head women's soccer at Springfield College in the fall of 2012. Gibson has led the Pride to the NCAA Tournament in five of the last seven years and has established the Pride as one of the top programs in the country. His clubs have registered an impressive a 152-70-19 record.
