Women's Cross Country Runs To 13th Place at Purple Valley Invitational
Williamstown, Mass. - September 25, 2010
– The Springfield College women’s cross country team finished 13th overall at the Purple Valley Invitational with 411 points on Saturday afternoon. Springfield was paced by Lacey Cartier
, who finished first for the Pride and 83rd overall.
Cartier, a senior from York, Maine, completed the 6K course in 24:58. Middlebury College took the team title with 57 points, and host Williams finished second with 76. Johns Hopkins (86), MIT (102), and Amherst (142) rounded out the top five.
Springfield also received points from junior Sissel Holloway (St. Croix, Virgin Islands) with a time of 25:39, while junior Michelle Mirti (Pompton Plains, N.J.) finished in 25:56. Sophomore Katie Burns (Billerica, Mass.) placed right behind Mirti in 25:58, and freshman Claudia Severance (Moultonborough, N.H.) crossed the finish line in 26:34.

Jim Pennington enters his 28th season as head coach of the Springfield College women’s cross country and track and field teams in 2011-2012. Under Pennington’s direction, the Pride has recorded seven top 20 finishes at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships, and seven top 15 finishes at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
