Men's Track and Field Finishes Sixth at Division III New England's

Cambridge, Mass. - May 7, 2011 - The Springfield College men's track and field team participated at the Division III New England Championships on Saturday and finished sixth with 45 points in the competition.

Williams won the Championships with 151 points, while host MIT finished in a close second with 147 points. Bates (73), Bowdoin (47.5) and Tufts (46.5) rounded out the top five.

The rest were as follows: Springfield (45), Coast Guard (36), Colby (28), Middlebury (26), RIC, Conn. College (25), WPI (23.5), Worcester State (20), Brandeis (16), Keene State (15), Fitchburg State, Wheaton, UMass Dartmouth, Eastern Conn. State (14), Amherst (13), Westfield State (12), Trinity (10), Bridgewater State (8), Wesleyan (7.5), Gordon, Mass. Maritime, Emmanuel, Colby-Sawyer (5), Roger Williams, Mass Boston (3), Southern Maine (1).

There were many fine performances among Springfield athletes. We can begin with a first-place title in the 200 meter dash by Nickel Hay in a time of 21.95 seconds. Right behind him was a second-place finish by Chris Quetant in 22.10.

Ryan O'Connell scored a point by finishing eighth in the 5000 meter run in 15:07.32.

SC placed second in the 4x100 meter relay, as the team of Tom Brognano, Hay, Kyle Brown, and David Seronick ran a time of 42.93 seconds.

In the high jump, two members of the Pride tied for eighth with leaps of 1.83 meters (6-feet even). They were Kevin Ross and Emil Occhiboi.

In the long jump, indoor national champion Kevin Coyle placed third in 6.99 meters (22-11 1/4). Dylan Brock was not far behind in sixth with a jump of 6.84 meters (22-5 1/4).

And finally in the javelin, Ryan Ux came in second with a throw of 57.52 meters (188-8).
