Cambridge, Mass. - September 26, 2008 - Two members of the Springfield College women's tennis team competed in the 2008 ITA Women's Division III New England Championship on Friday afternoon.In first round action, senior Melissa Weinstein cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Nawal Mays from Smith College. With the win, Weinstein advances to take on Rachel Rosman from Brandeis last this afternoon.
Sophomore Amy Shaw lost in the first round to Edwina Stewart from Tufts, 6-0, 6-0.
The duo will team up in doubles competition as well, which also takes place on Friday afternoon.
Toby Coffin G’01, enters his third year as the head men’s and women’s tennis coach at Springfield College. Coffin, who has coached at numerous high schools in the area, will look to build a program which will contend for a conference crown.
