



Springfield, Mass. - September 14, 2009 - After leading the football team to a convincing 57-30 win at King's College on Saturday afternoon, both Jarred Burrell and Joe Myhren were honored by the Empire 8. Burrell picked up his second consecutive Special Teams Player of the Week, while Myhren was selected as the Co-Offensive Player of the Week.Myhren, a junior halfback, ran for a career-high 150 yards and two touchdowns on just 11 carries, averaging 13.6 yards per carry. He also caught two passes for 46 yards, including a 31-yard touchdown reception and finished with 230 all-purpose yards.
Burrell returned a punt 63 yards for a touchdown and setup another score on a 54-yard kickoff return in the win. The two big returns occurred within a span of 1:45 in the third quarter just after King’s had cut the lead to 23-17. Burrell finished with 138 return yards on two punt returns and two kick returns.
The Pride will now enjoy its bye week before it will open up Empire 8 conference play at Alfred on September 26.

Michael C. “Mike” DeLong ’74 enters his 32nd season as a head football coach in the fall of 2013. He enters his 30th year at Springfield College alone. For the past 28 years, he has been the head coach at Springfield, his alma mater. Mike had also been the head coach at Maine Maritime in Castine, Maine in 1979 and 1980. Read more.
