Coaching the “NEWBA Dark” team, Graves notched another victory from the sidelines, as the Dark team overcame the “NEWBA White” team, 76-74.
Graves led Springfield to one of the biggest turnarounds in program history. Last season, the Pride went 4-20 and finished last place in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) standings. However, it was a much different scene in the 2013-2014 campaign.
Ranked as the sixth seed heading into the NEWMAC championship tournament, Graves, along with the rest of the Pride hit their stride as they picked up wins against Coast Guard and Wheaton before facing top-ranked Smith College in the championship game.
Behind a 14-point performance from junior forward Jaimie Bickelhaupt (Brookfield, Conn.), the Pride grinded out a 57-43 victory over Smith to win the NEWMAC Championship.
Following the season, Bickelhaupt was named NEWMAC All-Conference First Team. This was the first time that Graves had a First Team selection since Kelly Slattery in 2011.
