Ithaca, N.Y. - November 8, 2009 - In its opening competition of the season, the Springfield College wrestling team finished fourth at the 2009 Ithaca Invitational over the weekend. The host Bombers had five individual champions as they won the event. Ryan McGilvray and Ron Fusco were the Pride’s top scorers as each finished in third place in the 149-pound and 285-pound weight classifications, respectively.
McGilvray posted an impressive 5-1 record for the tournament, while Fusco won four matches while only dropping one match. Sophomore Ronald Thompson also had a solid weekend, beating some big-time opponents, and finishing fourth in the 165-pound classification.
Ithaca College, took home the title as it was sparked by five individual weight class champions to finish the tournament with a team total of 160 points. Cortland finished second with 143.5, followed by Johnson & Wales (99.5), Springfield (93), New York University (88) Roger Williams (83.5), Hunter (54.5), Oswego (51), Centenary (49), and Morrisville (27).
