Springfield, Mass. -- February 5, 2011 -- The Springfield College women's track & field team hosted an indoor meet today at the Springfield College Field House, placing second of seven entered teams. Oneonta captured first place with 198 points. The Pride finished right behind with 186.

Finishing third was Trinity with 85 points, followed by Eastern Connecticut with 44, Stevens Tech with 20, Rutgers-Newark with 18, and Manhattanville with 13.

There were many fine performances by the Springfield College women this afternoon in placing second overall as a team.

The top story involved the indoor pentathlon as both Kelly Curtis and Bethany Young finished 1-3 in the event. Curtis qualified provisionally for the NCAA nationals with 3,118 points, and now has the fifth-best point total nationally in Division III this season.

The 4x200-relay team finished first and improved their best time to 1:47.61, which qualifed it for the New England Division III's and the ECAC's. The 4x200 included Crystal Davis, Laurie Jenkins, Gabriella Gaudreault, and Erika Marks.

The 4x400-relay team also ran its best time of the season at 4:08.14. That foursome included Kathryn Schumann, Davis, Gaudreault, and Lacey Cartier.

Rhian Duggan placed first in the pole vault with a personal best and a New England Division III, open New Englands, and ECAC Division III qualifying mark of 10-6.

Gaudreault won the 400 meters in 60.43 seconds and qualified for the ECAC's.

Next Saturday (Feb. 12), the SC women will compete at MIT.
