No. 10 Men's Lacrosse Defeats Babson, 11-7

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., April 15, 2004 – Springfield College junior attackman
Shawn Cofrin (Derry, N.H.) totaled two goals and two assists to lead the No. 10 Pride to a 11-7 victory over Babson College in Pilgrim League men’s lacrosse action this afternoon on Benedum Field.
Senior midfielder
Mark Maitland (Salem, Mass.) and sophomore attackman
Taylor Brown (Portsmouth, R.I.) each tallied two goals and an assist for the Pride (9-3, 4-0 Pilgrim), which won its eighth-straight game, including a 4-0 conference record.
Junior attackman
Brian Endicott (Malden, Mass.) put the Pride on the board at the 7:52 mark of the first quarter, before Babson’s senior attackman
Tim Armenta (Kennebunk, Maine) evened the game at 6:11. Springfield goals by Brown at 6:04 and senior attackman
Paul Purdy (Brewster, Mass.) put the Pride up, 3-1, with 5:20 to play in the first quarter. The Beavers responded with goals by junior midfielder
Jared Connell (Yarmouth, Maine) at 4:59, and senior midfielder
Brian Collins (Needham, Mass.) at 3:16, to even the game, 3-3, after one quarter of play.

Tim Robbins (Easthampton, Mass.), assisted by Cofrin, at the 8:17 mark, and another by Maitland, off an assist by senior defenseman
Matt Antoniou (Mineola, N.Y.), gave SC a 5-3 advantage with 5:52 to play in the first half.
Collins netted his second goal of the game, man-up, at 4:48, before Confrin’s first tally of the game made the score 6-4 with 4:17 remaining in the half. Connell added his second goal of the contest for Babson with 1:36 on the clock as the Pride clung to a 6-5 lead after the first half of play.
Maitland found the back of the net at the 8:43 mark of the third quarter for the Pride, before a man-up goal by sophomore attackman
Jon Wyeth (New London, N.H.) kept Babson within one, 7-6, with 5:25 on the clock.
SC senior midfielder
Craig Gibson (South Salem, N.Y.) scored the final goal of the third quarter at the 2:41 mark to start a 4-0 Pride run that included goals by Brown at 14:50, Cofrin at 13:19 and junior midfielder
Derek Pedrick (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) to break the game open, 11-6, with 2:36 remaining in the game. Collins scored his game-high third goal of the game with 2:26 to play in the game, but the Pride held on for the 11-7 final.

Kyle Cloutier (South Hadley, Mass.) made 13 saves to preserve his eighth win of the spring, while Babson junior
Dave Frascogna (Orchard Park N.Y.) was credited with 14 saves for the Beavers.
The victory sets up a match between the only two undefeated teams in the Pilgrim League on Wednesday (April 21), as Springfield travels to Western New England for a 7:00 p.m. showdown. WNEC was a 17-1 winner over Mass. Maritime in today’s other conference action.
