Women's Volleyball Ranked 21st In AVCA Preseason Poll

Springfield College Women's Volleyball Lexington, Ky. - August 24, 2012 - A year removed from one of the most successful seasons program history, the Springfield College women's volleyball team enters the 2012 campaign ranked 21st in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III Coaches Top 25 Preseason Poll.

Head coach Moira Long powered Springfield to the NCAA Division III Championship Elite Eight last year as Springfield posted a 34-3 record in her first year on the sidelines in Blake Arena. At the conclusion of the 2012 season, Springfield was ranked 13th according to the AVCA National Poll.

The reigning New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) champions, Springfield returns several starters from last year's squad. Leading the way this season will be the NCAA Regional's Most Outstanding Player and AVCA All-America Honorable Mention, Tessa Smolinski.

The Pride kick off the season on Friday, August 31 when it hosts the Springfield College Invitational. In a two-day span, Springfield will square off against Simmons, Clarkson, Rivier, and Eastern Connecticut State.
