Women's Gymnastics Places Third at Southern Connecticut

Springfield's Results

New Haven, Conn. -- February 19, 2012 -- The Springfield College women's gymnastics team placed third in a tri-meet at Southern Connecticut this afternoon. SC finished with a score of 181.875, while host Southern Conn placed first at 187.525, with West Chester University second at 185.375. Freshman Lauren Pocius had SC's top score with a 9.475 in the uneven bars.

Pocius, who hails from Wallingford, Conn., finished second in the bars with that score of 9.475. She also finished 10th in the floor with a 9.150.

Overall, she scored a 36.350 in the all-around, the only SC performer to compete in all four of the apparatus.

Other of the better scores for the Pride on the day included senior Carly Flynn (Franklin, Mass.) in the vault with her 9.500, allowing her to place third in that event. Flynn also finished tied for fifth in the floor exercise with her tally of 9.350.

Freshman Abby Cark (Holderness, N.H.) also did well in the balance beam with a fifth-place finish in 9.450. She also placed ninth in the vault with a 9.200. Sophomore Keelin O'Connell (Pembroke, Mass.) placed seventh in the same event with 9.100.

Junior All-American Brittany Baglow (Amherst, Mass.) has been bothered with an ankle injury of late, and was held out of a couple of events today.

Springfield next looks forward to its trip to Louisiana where it will take on Centenary in Shreveport on Saturday, Feb. 25.
