



Springfield, Mass. -- November 1, 2012 -- The Liberty League recently announced that the Springfield College football team produced 16 members on this fall's Liberty League All-Academic Team. It was the second-highest number of any team within the conference. Student-athletes with a full year in residence at their institution who carry a 3.2 grade point average into a season of competition qualify for the Liberty League All-Academic Team.This is the first year that Springfield College qualified for this team as an associate member of the league.

-- Michael Escalante, sr., Physical Education, Glen Rock, N.Y.
-- Scott Leach, jr., Applied Exercise Science, Lincoln, R.I.
-- Jonathan Manor, jr., General Studies, Plattsburgh, N.Y.
-- Robert Merckling, so., Sports Biology, Melville, N.Y.
-- Brodie Quinn, jr., Applied Exercise Science, Pittsfield, Mass.

Only WPI, with 30 players, produced more than SC on the Liberty League All-Academic Team.

Michael C. “Mike” DeLong ’74 enters his 32nd season as a head football coach in the fall of 2013. He enters his 30th year at Springfield College alone. For the past 28 years, he has been the head coach at Springfield, his alma mater. Mike had also been the head coach at Maine Maritime in Castine, Maine in 1979 and 1980. Read more.
