Wrestling Seeded No. 1 in Sunday's NEWA Dual-Meet Tournament at Bridgewater State

John Archambeau Bristol, R.I. -- January 21, 2011 -- The Springfield College wrestling team has been seeded No. 1 in this Sunday's (Jan. 23) New England Wrestling Association Dual-Meet Tournament to be held at Bridgewater State. The Pride will receive a first-round bye.

SC is currently ranked No. 1 in the NEWA coaches poll, thus the seeding is not a surprise. In fact, the top 10 seeds mirror the most recent NEWA rankings, one through 10, released last Monday.

Springfield received 188 points, the high total, to be seeded No. 1. The rest of the seedings were as follows: Wesleyan (179 points), Williams (177), Johnson & Wales (151), Plymouth State (138), Bridgewater State (132), Roger Williams (105), Rhode Island College (104), Southern Maine (85), Coast Guard (60), Western New England (49), Trinity (48), WPI (25), and Norwich (24).

First-round matchups are as follows: Springfield and Wesleyan, as the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds, will receive byes. Williams (#3) will meet Norwich (#14), JWU (#4) will meet WPI (#13), Plymouth State (#5) will take on Trinity (#12), Bridgewater State (#6) will take on WNEC (#11), Roger Williams (#7) will meet Coast Guard (#10), and RIC (#8) will take on Southern Maine (#9).
