Stevens Recognized as NEWMAC Co-Player of the Week
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., October 12, 2004 – Springfield College senior back
Kim Stevens is the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Co-Player of the Week in field hockey, announced today.
Stevens shares the award with Wellesley’s Lindsay Holiday.
Stevens, who resides in
Knox, Maine, anchored the eighth-ranked Pride defense in a 2-0 week and a pair of shutouts versus two of the top teams in the NEWMAC. On Oct. 5, she led the Pride to a 1-0 win at defending NEWMAC champion Mount Holyoke. On Oct. 9, Stevens scored a goal in the Pride's 3-0 shutout of Babson. In the victory, the SC defense limited the conference's top scorer Elise Conley, who was averaging 3.63 points per game, to only one shot on goal.
This marks the second time this season Stevens was named the conference's top player as she also garnered the honor on September 6. This also marked the fourth time an SC player has earned the NEWMAC recognition as junior
Meg Bascetta (Granby, Conn.) was given the award for the previous two weeks.
The Pride is 11-2 overall and ranked ninth nationally in Division III. SC travels to No. 18 Williams on Wednesday and Clark on Saturday before hosting No. 17 Ithaca on Sunday, Oct. 17 at 1:00 p.m. on Benedum Field.
