Headley Paces Men's Track and Field at BU Valentine's Invitational

Boston, Mass. - February 14, 2009 - Junior Steve Headley won the 55 meter dash and broke the indoor school record in the 200 as the Springfield College men's track and field team competed in the Boston University Valentine's Invitational on Saturday.

Headley captured the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.34, which currently stands as the second fastest time in the country this year. While tying his season's fastest time, Headley defeated 118 other competitors in the race.

The junior also finished 6th in the 200 with a time of 21.87, setting a new school indoor record in the race. The previous mark was held by Jason Jackson, who ran a 22.16 in 2002.

SC also had a handful of other nice individual performances as several athletes qualified for upcoming championships. Springfield's mile relay of Matt Krakowski, Kevin Belmont, Nickel Hay, and Eric Nascin finished with a time of 3:23.17, qualifying for Division III New England's, and Open New England's. Nascin also had a strong showing in the 800 as he ran a New England qualifying time of 1:57.88

Brian Fuller ran the 3,000 meters in 8:51.51, qualifying for Division III New England's, as did Mike Griffin in the 1,000 with a 2:29.72. Griffin also qualified for the Open New England's and the ECAC's. Steve Creamer (2:34.30) and Troy French (2:35.24) also reached New England Division III qualifying times in the 1,000 meters.

Also, in the pole vault, Matt Pearson finished eighth with a personal best of 13'11 1/2".
