Gaudreault Named USTFCCA Division III National Athlete of the Week
New Orleans, La. - February 10, 2014 -
Springfield College's Gabriella Gaudreault (Leominster, Mass.)
has been named the Division III National Athlete of the Week by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Monday following her record-breaking performance in the 800 meters on Friday.
The senior ran the fastest time in the 800 meter in school history on Friday at the 2014 Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational.
Running in her first 800 race of the season, Gaudreault finished 10th in a field of 160 runners with a time of 2:09.57. Currently the fastest time in Division III this year and the 7th-fastest time in the history of Division III, Gaudreault broke Springfield's indoor 800 record, which was previously held by Heather Cayward, who ran a 2:12.82 in 1993.
Last spring, Gaudreault set the outdoor record in the 800 as she placed fourth at the NCAA Championships with a time of 2:09.80 to earn All-America honors.
The senior has been dominant early on in the indoor season. She is unbeaten in the 400-meter, tallying four wins in four meets. She has also won the 1000-meter run twice this season and has run on the winning 4x200 meter relay team two times.
Up next, the Pride will compete in the Tufts Cupid Challenge on Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
