Medeiros and 800 Free Relay Earn All-America Honors at NCAA Championships

Emily Medeiros Indianapolis, Ind. - March 21, 2014 - The Springfield College women's 800 free relay finished 11th and Emily Medeiros (Wakefield, Mass.) placed 12th in the 100-yard breaststroke on day three of the 2014 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championship.

For their efforts, both the relay and Medeiros earned Honorable Mention All-America honors.

The 800 free relay team of Delaney Dyjak (Ludlow, Mass.), Kellie Pennington (Monson, Mass.), Ashleigh Monroe (Southbury, Conn.) and Callie Phillips (East Longmeadow, Mass.) swam a combined time of 7:33.29, breaking the school record of 7:34.02 set this year at the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship.

Dyjak opened up the race with a lead leg of 1:56.83 before Pennington swam a dominant next leg of 1:49.78. Monroe pulled Springfield into possession of second place with a third leg of 1:53.01 and Phillips anchored the relay with split of 1:53.67 to give Springfield a third place finish in its heat.

Medeiros, the NEWMAC Rookie of the Year, took home Honorable Mention All-America recognition after finishing 12th in the 100 breast with a time of 1:04.32. Earlier in the day, Medeiros swam a personal best of 1:04.08 in the prelims to earn a spot in the consolation finals. The first-year entered the event seeded 12th.
