Men's Soccer Falls To Coast Guard, 2-1, In NEWMAC Tournament

NEW LONDON, Conn., Nov. 5, 2003 - Springfield College sophomore back Justin Pepoli (Ashburnham, Mass.) scored the lone goal of the match for the Pride as fifth-seeded Springfield fell to fourth-seeded Coast Guard, 2-1, in the first round of the New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament.

Coast Guard's junior midfielder Anthony Marcheski scored the first goal of the match in the 25th minute and also tallied an assist when senior forward Jared Silverman knocked in the decisive goal for the Bears in the 54th minute.

In the 71st minute, senior forward Ryan Lavner (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and senior back Matt Callendrillo (Milford, Conn.) both assisted on Pepoli's goal which cut the Coast Guard lead in half.

SC ends the 2003 season with a record of 4-11-3 (1-3-2 NEWMAC).
