Goalkeeper Chris Walton Named NEWMAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week

Goalkeeper Chris Walton Named NEWMAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week Springfield, Mass. -- September 13, 2010 -- Chris Walton of Springfield College has been named this week's New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference men's soccer Player of the Week.

Walton, a sophomore goalkeeper, is from Cromwell, Conn. He is an applied exercise science major.

Walton is one of the major reasons why the Springfield College men's soccer team is 4-0 and has gotten off to one of its better starts in years. The last three victories, in fact, have come by way of shutout.

The first two wins were produced in the Springfield Invitational on September 4-5. SC defeated Johnson & Wales, 4-1, and then local-rival Westfield State, 3-0. Last Wednesday, the Pride defeated always-tough Keene State, 2-0. Then last Saturday in Waterville, Me., SC defeated Thomas College on a late goal, 1-0.

Walton has accumulated 12 saves in the four victories.

Springfield will next take on Wesleyan in a non-conference contest on Wednesday, Sept. 15 at 7 pm at Brock-Affleck Field.
