Burke and Martin Selected to NEWMAC All-Conference Teams

Robbie Burke and Sean Martin Boston, Mass. - March 4, 2014 - Springfield College seniors Robbie Burke (Cheshire, Mass.) and Sean Martin (Rindge, N.H.) were selected to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Basketball All-Conference teams. Burke earned first-team honors while Martin picked up second-team honors.

Burke and Martin have both been key to Springfield's success this season, as the Pride earned its second-straight at-large berth into the NCAA Championship tournament. Springfield is in the midst of one of its finest seasons as a Division III program and currently owns a 20-7 record, marking just the third 20-win season in the 16-year tenure of head coach Charlie Brock.

Burke is the Pride's leading scorer this season, averaging 14.2 points per game. He's second on the team in rebounds, averaging 7.3 per game and has posted seven double-doubles this year. He is a monster on the defensive glass, pulling down 142 defensive rebounds. The senior has scored 16 or more points, 11 times this season and has scored 20 or more three times. He posted a career-high 24 points against MIT in the NEWMAC Championship game. Burke has shot 44.6% (148-332) from the floor this season.

Martin is Springfield's all-around guy this year. The senior is averaging 31.1 minutes per game this season and is leading the team in several categories. He's dished out a team-best 128 assists and tallied 65 steals. Martin is second on the team in scoring, averaging 11.7 points per game. He's gotten to the foul line 135 times this season, shooting 76.3% from the charity stripe. Martin has shot 50% (101-202) from the floor and has started all 27 games for the Pride.

As a team, Springfield is shooting 48.1% from the field and ranks in the top 15 nationally in assists per game.

The Pride will travel to Randolph Macon College in Ashland, Va. this weekend, to take on Mary Washington University in the first round of the NCAA Championship. This marks the fourth time that Brock he has led the Pride to the NCAA Championship. Springfield advanced to the Sweet 16 in 2000, reached the second round in 2005, and hosted a first round game in 2013.

Charlie Brock Charlie Brock in 2013-14 will enter his 16th season as the head coach at Springfield College and his 34th season as a head coach overall. Brock’s achievements as a coach are certainly impressive. He has taken three schools to the NCAA Division III Tournament and has an overall, 32-year record of 440-397. Read more.
