



Complete ResultsSpringfield, Mass. -- May 14, 2009 -- After five events on Day 1 of the ECAC Division III Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Springfield College's Blake Track, Cortland State owns a lead with 21.50 points. RIT, on the strength of its 1-2 finish in the 10,000, is in second place with 18 points.
Two ECAC records were set on the men's side, during the day. Kyle O'Brien of Cortland established an ECAC record in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:09.27. He broke the old mark of 9:09.35 set by Mike Bunker of Southern Maine in 2005. In the men's hammer, Bryan Kolacz of Keene State now possesses the new ECAC record of 189-5. The old mark was set by Uzoma Orji of MIT at 188-8.
Other first place finishes on Day 1 included those of Craig Van Leeuwen of Ramapo in the pole vault (4.97 meters), Cory Peterman of Ithaca in the javelin (202-7), and by Zachary Miller of RIT in the 10,000 (31:37.04). RIT's Mike Brindak was a close second with a time of 31:39.19 in the same event. They combined for all 18 of RIT's points.
From a Springfield College point of view, junior Steve Headley had the second fastest time this afternoon in the prelims of his specialty, the 100 meter dash. He ran it in a time of 10.82 seconds, easily qualifying for Saturday's finals. Headley currently owns the fastest time in the nation this year among all Division III competitors with a school-record time of 10.39 seconds, set last week at the Open New England Championships at UMass.
