The NCAA awards up to 174 postgraduate scholarships annually across all three divisions, 87 for men and 87 for women. The scholarships are awarded to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are in their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition.
Pezzino was one of just three men's men's gymnasts in the entire country to earn the NCAA scholarship. The other two were Gabriel Alvarado of Stanford University and Scott Rosenthal of Penn State.
The Buffalo, N.Y. native is the third NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship winner from Springfield College in as many years. In 2011, two-time NEWMAC Men's Diver of the Year Brian Sobel earned the honor, while in 2010, AVCA Division III Men's Volleyball National Player of the Year AJ Nally also was selected.
