Notary Brothers Named To Verizon Academic All-America Third Team

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., June 17, 2003 – Springfield College seniors Jon Notary and Mike Notary were both named to the Verizon Academic All-America College Division Men’s Track & Field/Cross Country Third Team.

Mike and Jon, who are from Bethlehem, Pa., were members of the 2003 Verizon Academic All-District I College Division Men’s Track & Field/Cross Country team. The Academic All-America team is made up of Division II and III athletes from schools across the country.

Mike has a 3.93 grade-point average (g.p.a.) as a business management major. He was a New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Second-Team All-Conference selection in the 800 meters, and an academic all-conference choice this season. He was part of SC’s 4 X 400 meter relay team that placed second (3:18.41) in the 2003 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championship, helping the Pride captured its second-consecutive ECAC crown this season. Mike finished 17th at the NEWMAC Cross Country Championship (Nov. 2).

Jon, who was an academic all-district selection in 2002 and 2003, carries a 3.91 g.p.a. in business management. He won the 400-meter dash (49.43) at the Division III New England Outdoor Track & Field Championships (May 3). Jon, who was an academic all-conference pick, was also honored as a second-team all-NEWMAC selection in the 4 X 400 meter relay. He was also a three-year member of the cross country team.

To be eligible for the Verizon Academic All-America team, a student-athlete must have earned a spot on his all-district team. The student-athlete must have a minimum 3.2 g.p.a. and be a starter or significant reserve on his team. The team is voted on by the College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSida).

He ranks among the nation’s most successful coaches, with an overall record of 442 wins, 144 losses, and two ties for an impressive .753 winning percentage.
