



Providence, R.I. - October 1, 2010 - The Springfield College women's volleyball team swept Plymouth State in its opening match of the Johnson and Wales Invitational on Friday evening. Springfield, which is now 15-2 on the year, won by the set scores of 25-15, 25-20, 25-15.All-American Heather Lively led Springfield with a team-best 11 kills, while classmate Sarah Lang-Rodean added nine kills in the victory.
Kelsea Hellyar handed out 35 assists and Meaghan Hart totaled 14 digs in just three sets for the Pride. As a team, Springfield entered the weekend ranked third in New England in this week's NEWVA Coaches Poll.
The Pride have a full day of play ahead of them on Saturday as it will play three matches, starting with Western Connecticut State at 10:00 am.

Moira Long will enter her third season as head women's volleyball coach in the fall of 2013. Long wasted little time putting her stamp on the program, taking the Pride to the NCAA Championship Elite Eight in 2011.
