Bascetta Earns More NEWMAC Accolades

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Oct. 4, 2004 - Springfield College junior midfielder Meg Bascetta was chosen as the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Co-Player of the Week in field hockey, announced today.

Bascetta shares the award with Babson’s Elise Conley. Bascetta, who hails from Granby, Conn., led the No. 9 Pride to a 2-1 week. Against Trinity on Sept. 29, she assisted the game-tying goal in the second half and tallied the game-winner in overtime to help SC to a 3-2 comeback victory. On Saturday, she assisted the game-tying goal again as SC overcame a 3-2 deficit to defeat Wellesley.

This is the second week in a row that Bascetta has been honored with this award. With her 11 points, she is currently second on the team while she leads SC with five assists. She is also third in the NEWMAC in assists.

The Pride travels to Mount Holyoke on Tuesday before hosting Babson on Saturday, Oct. 9 at 1:00 p.m. on Benedum Field.
