



Cleveland, Ohio -- March 15, 2012 -- Springfield College Athletics is currently in 20th place in the overall standings of the 2011-12 Division III Learfield Sports Directors' Cup, released earlier today. The Pride has improved by three spots from its position in the fall. A total of 432 colleges are included in the Division III rankings nationally.The rankings include all the fall and winter sports to date. There will be further updates throughout the academic year, including a second set of winter rankings that should be released with in the next few weeks. The final set of rankings should come out in the middle of June.
Springfield College currently has 251.25 points. That includes 148.00 points through the fall. To this date in the winter, another 103.25 points have been added. That includes the following three sports -- men's indoor track & field, women's indoor track & field, and wrestling. SC accumulated 22 points in men's track, 23.5 points in women's track, and 57.75 in wrestling.
In the next round, men's and women's swimming & diving should be added among other sports.
The top five schools remain the same, as it did on December 21 after the fall standings were revealed. Washington University of St. Louis remains in first with 511.50 points. It is followed by Middlebury with 476.50, then Wisconsin-Whitewater (407.50), Wartburg (382.75), and North Central (Ill.) (379.00).
The next group of 15 includes Wisconsin-Oshkosh (361.50), Cortland State (N.Y.) (344.50), Williams (313.50), Salisbury (Md.) (297.00), Mount Union (Ohio) (293,25), Calvin (284.00), MIT (283.25), Ohio Northern (279.50), Tufts (273.00), St. Thomas (Minn.) (269.25), Amherst and Johns Hopkins (Md.) (264.00 each), Messiah (Pa.) (258.00), Wisconsin-La Crosse (256.25), and Springfield (251.25).
