Track and Field Cruises Past RPI In Outdoor Season Opener

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- March 29, 2008 - The Springfield College men's and women's outdoor track and field teams opened up the season on a high note as they cruised past visiting RPI on Saturday afternoon at Blake Track.

The men won by a score of 116-56, while the women won 97.5-60.5.

Nikki Hay led the women as she placed first in the 100 meter dash (12.65), 200 meter dash (26.94), long jump (5.37m), and triple jump (10.82m).

Springfield had plenty of first place finishes in the meet as Kristyn Meade claimed first in the 800 meter run (2:29.49) while teammate Alyssa Brigham claimed first in the 1500 meters (5:06.52). Amanda DiPaolo also won the 10,000 meters (39.30.08) and Ashley Palmer won the 100 meter hurdles (16.43). Lara Dalidowitz claimed first in the high jump (1.50m), Rachel Keyworth took first in the discus (33.90m), Kelsey Bishop was victorious in the hammer throw (43.78m), and Steph Colella won the javelin (35.51m).

On the men's side, Steve Headley continued to impress as he claimed first in the 100 meter dash in a time of 10.74 and the 200 meter dash in 22.17.

Mike Griffin won the 800 meter run (2:08.61) and teammate Jeff Bartlett took first in the 1500 meter run (4:15.52).

The Pride's Kevin Behlmer crossed the finish line first in the 400 meter hurdles (1:00.79) and Brian Fuller won the 3000 meter steeplechase (10.21.52).

Mike Miller won the high jump (1.90m) and javelin throw (53.29m) and also finished second in the shot put (12.88m), and third in the pole vault (3.66m).

In the other field events, John Lewis won the discus (43.72m), Dom Uguccioni won the shot put (13.16m) and the hammer throw (53.40m), Nick DeCelle claimed first in the triple jump (12.89m), and Kyle Robert took first in the long jump (6.25m).
