SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Jan. 8, 2005– Springfield College junior All-American
Mike Shaw (Westfield, Mass.) won both the one- and three-meter diving events to the lead the Pride to victories over Hartwick and Union in men’s swimming & diving this afternoon at Linkletter Natatorium.
The SC men beat Hartwick, 147-91, and defeated Union, 142-94 to improve its dual-meet record to 5-1. Union beat Hartwick, 135-105.
Shaw posted scores of 294.00 in the one-meter dive and 314.00 on the three-meter board. Senior captain
Louis Arruda (West Warwick, R.I.) swam to victory in the 200 free (1:46.47) and 500 free (4:56.09). Other individual first-place finishers for SC included senior captain
Tim Ryan (Hatboro, Pa.) in the 200 individual medley (2:04.04), and junior
Dan Moran (Wilbraham, Mass.) in the 1,000 freestyle (10:04.71)
On the women’s side, SC senior All-American
Megan Skinner (Acton, Mass.) placed first in the 200 free (1:58.67) and the 500 free (5:16.73) as the Pride improved its mark to 3-4 with two wins.
SC beat Hartwick, 183-58, and edged Union, 126.5-116.5.

Andrea Babcock (Wayland, Mass.) was first in the one-meter diving competition with 237.45 points, followed freshman teammate
Dana Allen (Agawam, Mass.), who scored 235.45. Other individual winners were senior
Tori Dennis (Willington, Conn.), who won the 200 backstroke (2:16.93), and junior
Emily Phillips (North Windham, Conn.), who swam to first in the 100 free (55.72).

Peter Avdoulos is regarded as one of the top diving coaches in the nation, and is entering his 28th season as the diving coach for both the men's and women's programs in 2012-2013. The current NEWMAC Men's and Women's Diving Coach of the Year, Avdoulos has coached countless All-New England and All-American divers, as well as several National Champions.
