



Babson Park, Mass. -- May 3, 2011 -- Kelly Curtis of the Springfield College women's track & field team, has been named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Year for her efforts in the 2011 season.Curtis, a sport management major, is a native of Princeton, N.J.
Just six days ago, Curtis won the women's collegiate heptathlon at the Penn Relays. She scored 4,738 points, a personal best for her in that event. At the Penn Relays, despite winning none of the seven heptathlon events, she scored five personal bests winning by more than 100 points over her nearest competitor.
Three days beyond that, last Saturday at the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Curtis won the javelin and the long jump, and finished second in the high jump.
Jim Pennington enters his 29th season as head coach of the Springfield College women’s cross country and track and field teams in 2012-2013. Under Pennington’s direction, the Pride has recorded seven top 20 finishes at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships, and seven top 15 finishes at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
