Baseball Rallies To Defeat Wesleyan, 13-9
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., April 21, 2003- Springfield College junior shortstop
Toby Cole (Blue Hill, Maine) drilled a three-run home run in the sixth to ignite a seven-run inning as the Pride rallied to defeat Wesleyan, 13-9, on Monday in a non-conference match-up at Berry-Allen Field.
The Pride fell behind early in the contest, as the Cardinals scored four times in the first inning, and three more in the top of the fifth to extend its lead to 7-3. In the bottom half of the sixth,
Dan Abrahamson (South Deerfield, Mass.) ripped on a single through the right side, and
Dan Samia (North Adams, Mass.) reached on a fielding error. Cole’s shot to left helped pull the Pride within one at 7-6.
Later in the inning,
Mike Judge (Chatham, N.J.) drove in the tying run, and two batters later,
Derek Yvon (East Longmeadow, Mass.) drove in two runs with a double up the middle.
SC junior pitcher
Kevin Ludwig (Walpole, Mass.) picked up his first save of the season, going two and two-thirds innings in relief, and giving up just one earned run on three hits.
